pikaland idol

I love American Idol (Hey! Don’t judge me!). But, I’m not here to discuss who I want to win. I will aim my disappointed curse words at my TV instead (you’re welcome)

As artists, I feel we need to educate the masses on art and illustration. So when I saw A.I. contestant Siobhan Magnus sporting ink from writer/illustrator Edward Gorey, I knew this society would be o.k.

Siobhan’s tattoo is of death holding its umbrella over a group of children (so badass). It’s from Gorey’s 1963 illustrated book The Ghastlycrumb Tinies, where 26 children (each of their names represents a letter of the alphabet), well…they die. In rhyme, of course.

I tried to come up with my own A.I. Ghastlycrumb Tinies but all I could think of was “S is for Siobhan who sang way too long.”

Kidding.

  1. I love that book! A friend gave it to me after a trip to N.Y. and it’s so well illustrated and funny in a horrible way – the best kind of funny! 😀
