Good Monday folks!
I’m here to remind you to back up your data if you haven’t done so in a while. (Double cringe if you have NEVER done a backup before!)
It’s relatively easy if you have a Mac computer — I just hook it up to an external drive (mine’s a red 250GB beauty from Seagate) and I run the Time Machine application and let it run. Within a few minutes, I’ll have a working copy of my computer on a spare drive, in case anything unthinkable happens to my lappy.
I was once unfortunate enough to lose all 6 months worth of data when my laptop went bonkers on me, and I was cursing and tearing out my hair to no end. So to avoid the above scenario happening again, in addition to backing up every 10 days or so, I keep my working files on a DropBox account so that I can access them anywhere. Call me anal, but I prefer to be fully prepared if a stroke of bad luck ever strikes!
Have you backed up your data lately? If you haven’t, I suggest you get busy – we don’t want all that hard work of yours disappearing into thin air now, do we?
Have a lovely week ahead!

p/s—Thanks to those who participated in our Camp Pikaland survey last week. The survey will be up until 20th June and it would be great if you could take a few minutes of your time to help us out by answering a few questions!

Nope, not anal at all!
I have time-machine, monthly CD-Roms and I email myself important documents weekly as well. And I keep CD-Roms with back-ups at my parents’ house, too, just in case of a fire/robbery/really bad luck. Better safe than sorry.
Must be something in the air! Last Friday I decided to start a new tradition of “Back Up & Unwind”, where at 5PM on Friday afternoon, I fix a cocktail & spend 15 minutes backing up my computer & websites. Because cocktails make everything more pleasant, no? 😉
i use a drop box account as well for both work and personal computers. not a good feeling when you lose hard work and i think backing up in more than once place is prudent.
the worst is when your backup drive fails. This has happened to me— twice. All of my wedding and honeymoon photos? Gone. It doesn’t hurt to make sure things are backed-up to more than one place.
I really enjoyed it when my back-up seagate drive just died without warning. You have to triple back-up unless you want to live dangerously 😉
I adore Dropbox. Plus, it has the added advantage of being easily accessible from just about anywhere.
Ooh, this is dreadfully important advice. I have two external drives which have complete copies of my CPU and then I also have a small drive that always leaves the house with me and contains another complete backup. I also use an ftp server for my clients which has the current years work on-board so that if we have a problem their files are always accessible by both themselves and I. This also makes it really easy to share any number of files at any given time. You can never be too safe with back-up.
