Jenny Mendes
Posted by Amy on Friday January 15, 2010

Jenny Mendes’ ceramic sculptures are characters unto themselves – one look at them and you can almost picture them talking and coming to life (like on the telly!) She’s a full time artist based in Ohio, and she offers giclee prints for sale in her Etsy shop that are prints of her original terra sigillata painting on a clay tile. She’ll return in February with more ceramic works, so until then you can see a collection of her wall birds here.
{Thanks Yael!}
Lukaluka

Luka from Lithuania draws on ceramic items like plates, cups and saucers. I love her black and white pieces the best – somehow they all pop out better against the white background. And no, you can’t eat on them, although you can stare at them as much as you want!

LoucheLab

So many lovely goods over at LoucheLab — a collaboration between Aya and Ned. Aya hand paints these beautiful ceramics while Ned takes pictures of them after. She doesn’t just paints on ceramics — I’m in love with her originals and prints too. One thing you should definitely check out are her tarot cards — they’re all illustrated, using mostly Ned’s photography for reference. Beautiful!
See more of their collaborative efforts on their website.

Catherine Reece

Wonderfully funny clay pieces by Catherine Reece (the dung beetle plate caught my eye and as I was laughing, I couldn’t help but think that I might not want to use this for eating — my imagination has the propensity to run wild.) You can see more in her Etsy shop.
And the best thing is that her family is all involved in clay too; her 5-year old son Jackson has his own little Etsy shop making little clay items. Talent sure runs in this family!
Illustrations on plates
Posted by Amy on Wednesday March 25, 2009

I love it when old items are given a new lease of life, and I also admire the people who know how to give a proper make-over. Sarah Burden obviously knows how to turn old to gold with her illustrated plates. And if you think old tableware can’t teach you a few new things, well I recommend having a look at her fertility tea sets. How’s that for food for thought?
Allan Deas

Have you seen the latest issue of Blanket Magazine yet? It’s from their latest issue (a beautiful theme of everything blue) that I found the link to Allan Deas’ work. Everything is beautifully retro and organic in nature — two of my favorite styles put together!
Read his interview over at Blanket Magazine and see more of his work over at his portfolio.

Fox and Clover
Posted by Amy on Saturday December 6, 2008

Sabrina of Fox & Clover makes these beautiful homewares by hand-illustrating imagery onto glass with glass enamels and a quill pen. And since 2008, she has been making her plates out of old reclaimed windows as she is a great believer of sustainable design. Her designs are dotted with naturalistic elements, which are derived from her childhood in Minnesota’s beautiful St. Croix river valley, where fireflies, beavers, oaks and owls were the backdrop of her daily life.
She also has other items for sale, such as necklaces and Christmas ornaments that are made the same way — have a look at her Etsy shop and be blown away!
