Ivy Atoms
Posted by Amy on Wednesday July 7, 2010

I stumbled on Ivy’s Etsy shop a few days ago and discovered that she’s seventeen and is gearing to go to college in fall. I really like her simple watercolor drawings and of course, the humor that shines through! And if you buy her art, you’re chipping in to help her with college education fund – so how about doing a good deed today?

Stop the spill
Posted by Amy on Wednesday June 9, 2010
The recent week of BP’s oil spill has captured the attention (and anguish) of many quarters – including artists. The oil spill not only harms wildlife and the ecosystem, but the long lasting impact of such a disaster will be detrimental to the livelihood of those who depend on the affected waterways. Here’s two ways you can help:

Julianna Swaney of Oh My Cavalier is offering a limited edition print entitled Night Demons where a 100% of the proceeds will go towards the Audubon Society’s Oil Spill clean up effort.

Tiny Showcase is offering a Jen Corace print entitled “Down, Down, Down” from June 8th till June 18th, where 50% of the proceeds will go to the Gulf Restoration Network (there’s a nifty counter to see the tally of the sales so far!)

Working Proof
Posted by Amy on Thursday October 15, 2009

Anna Corpron and Sean Auyeung, from one of my favourite blogs, Sub-Studio has just launched a new project called Working Proof, which seeks to promote art and social responsibility.
From their website:
Each print is paired with a charity of the artist’s choice, to which we are donating 15% of the sale of each print – creating what we believe to be a product with not just aesthetic, but social value. Besides showcasing emerging artists and great artwork, the intent of the Working Proof is to promote a variety of charities and to expose them to new supporters through the appreciation of art and creativity.
They will release a new print once a week, on Tuesdays at 1:30 pm, EST. First one up is one done by Samantha Hahn entitled Burden that features a woman bearing a heavy load, represented by chairs chained to her back. Chairs are really meant for resting in, yet she carries them — indicating a juxtaposition of roles, which suggests that sometimes it seems that we create our own burdens in life.
{Congratulations Anna & Sean!}

Drawing for A Cure
Posted by Amy on Thursday May 7, 2009

Nancy of Pretty Little Thieves has a friend whose father recently and suddenly lost his life to Acute Moncytic Leukemia. This friend of hers made a promise to herself to do whatever she could to help raise funds for research for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Nancy is joining her fundraising efforts by dedicating a section in her shop called DRAWING FOR A CURE. She’ll be posting up original drawings, each costing USD15, with $10 of each sale going directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The fund raising campaign will end on June 3rd, and her drawings are selling quick, so if you ever wanted to get an original drawing from this lovely lady, now’s a great time to do so!

Getting Lost and Found print at Blue Flip Art

Jungle Serenade print at Blue Flip Art
A while back, I discovered a website called Trade Secrets, a site for dispensing advice about being a illustrator from Arizona-based Meg Hunt. She stopped posting there for awhile, but I’m so glad that she picked it up again!
From there, I stumbled upon her Etsy shop called Pogonip (a word that refers to ice particles in the air, nicknamed the white death’), where she sells these awesome to-do lists, along with screenprints.

Loch Ness Express wallets at Tiny Meat

Rampage Surprise To-Do List at her Etsy shop
Her work is also at Blue Flip Art where you can find her prints (there’s a wider range over there). Best of all, with every print sold, a portion of the sale goes to Heal Africa, an organization that provides holistic care for the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
You can read her blog, see her portfolio, and go on to her Etsy shop or her Blue Flip Art page for more wonderful illustrated goodies.
