Dear Japan NY
Posted by Amy on Tuesday May 17, 2011

Fumiha Tanaka contacted me about Dear Japan NY exhibition that she’s organizing with Aya and Miwa, where 170 renowned and emerging artists from around the world will write 170 messages of hope at the back of their artworks. These artworks will be available for sale at the one night benefit party held at Art Connects New York (ACNY) in the SOHO gallery on June 4th, 2011.
For a complete list of participating artists, head to their website for more details. If you’re there, do stop for a visit and support the ongoing relief efforts in rebuilding Japan!

Japan earthquake & tsunami fundraiser: update!
Posted by Amy on Friday April 15, 2011

Thank you so much to everybody who got the Chotto Omoshiroi poster in aid of our Japan Tsunami & Earthquake fundraiser! We’ve raised a total of USD$1,050 which will be donated to the Japan Red Cross Society via our local chapter of the Red Crescent Society. The poster alone is now sold out, but it is still bundled together with the Chotto Omoshiroi zine that is available for purchase in the shop.

If you are still craving for a little Mogu Takahashi action and still want to help Japan – you’re in luck! Mogu has made these lovely t-shirts to sell in her shop, with proceeds that will go towards aid for Japan in this time of need.
Gambatte Mogu-chan!

{The same goes to those who enrolled in the Pikaland Artist Bootcamp #2 — I’ll see you all in class next week!}

You are living at a fraction of your true potential.

Beautiful vector-based lettering style from Lucas Sharp, an art director and graphic designer who is based in New York. He’s been devoting time to studying typography at Parsons and is currently an apprentice under Joshua Darden.
This particular font is called Meditate, which was designed in 2009 and is currently being used in labels for a health food start up. There are other beautiful fonts on his website, but this one jumps out at me the most. Also, I love this quote, and thought that it would be great to end this week on a high note.
On another high note, as of 18th March, we’ve raised USD$550 from our Japan earthquake and tsunami fundraiser! It’s still going strong, and we welcome contributions from you, dear readers. Every little bit counts!

I’m winding down this week a little earlier as I’m been busy packing up orders for Mogu poster for the fundraiser. I’ll be updating my Twitter throughout the weekend on the collection total, so it would be wonderful if you can help spread the word!
Happy weekend everyone!

Endangered Animals
Posted by Amy on Wednesday February 9, 2011

Have you seen the Endangered Animals collaboration between artists Sandra Dieckmann and Jamie Mills? I love how they’ve banded together to produce a collection that focuses on raising awareness of animals who are under threat. Their illustrations are beautifully done; I love how they each still stay true to their own style but have come up with artworks that represent each of their strengths so well.
You can leave a comment on their studio to pre-order a set, and part of the proceeds will go towards a charity.
