“I’m not an artist, a painter, a singer, a photographer, a poet, a human, a child, a man, a woman, a cat, animal, mineral, vegetable, a ghost or a dream. I’m not nothing of this and I am all.”

Gentleman & Sparrow Series
Posted by Jamie Shelman on Wednesday February 3, 2010

Enjoying these simple graphite drawings by UK artist Jay Cover.
The texture of the graphite, the contrast of values, the shadows (which give the works a sculptural appeal) and of course the little sparrow all contribute to the charm of these subtle pieces.
See the full series of Gentlemen and Sparrow’s on Jay’s flickr stream along with other aesthetically inspiring and unembellished line drawings.

Introducing the Good to Eat flickr group!
Posted by Amy on Friday January 29, 2010
I’m inspired by all things food lately, and with a good rest at the end of the year, it culminated in lots of ideas for the coming months! So the first new project on Pikaland for 2010 is the Good to Eat flickr stream — a fun look at what artists, designers + illustrators all over the world eat! Nothing is more universal than food (besides music!) so share what fills your creative tummy by posting all your food and drinks related illustrations/photos on the Good to Eat page!

{Loving this new blog too: Norwegian food illustrated by an Italian by Vesle Serena, a graphic designer who loves to draw and cook!}

Ricardo Cavolo

So much fun and hairy creatures in Madrid-based illustrator Ricardo Cavalo’s flickr stream. He seems to be focusing on lycanthrope creatures for now, but a look into his collections and sets reveal a playful illustrator who sees the lighter side of everything.
He also has an Etsy shop, and he blogs as well.

Mayuko Fujino
Posted by Amy on Sunday October 18, 2009

Aren’t these papercuts by Mayuko Fujino of planetplatonic the most awesome ever? The best thing is that they aren’t just papercuts, but also collages mixed in.
Her works are all created with an X-Acto knife, Washi (Japanese handmade paper), and magazine papers.
I’m also loving the papercuts that she did in conjunction with Dia de los Muertos. You can see more of her work at her portfolio site.
{Thanks Yael!}

Wonderful illustrations from Kristýna Litten, who is currently studying illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. She’s also a regular contributor to the What I wore today Flickr pool and I love her work and sense of style!

What I Wore Today
Posted by Gemma Correll on Friday September 11, 2009

Gemma Correll (yep, that’s me!)
My new What I Wore Today group is going down a storm on flickr. I created it especially for camera-shy artists (and non-artists too!) as an alternative to all those groups where people take photos of themselves posing in fancy clothes. We don’t care if you’re wearing pyjamas and have hole-y socks… Come and join us!

Ninon
Posted by Amy on Sunday August 30, 2009

How awesome are these plushies from Ninon? Tania is a full time plush toy maker based in Germany (but she’s Italian). Les monstrìs is her ongoing collection of monster plush toys. She started sewing clothes for herself and friends and found that she was also drawing a lot of monsters, and so decided to join her two loves. What’s fantastic is that there are never two plushies that are alike!

Keep up with her on her blog and her awesomely colorful flickr stream.

I am so stoked

Realistically, I cannot be my own creative leader everyday. But I am o.k. with following someone else’s joy. Today I let Aileen May lead me.

Nous Vous
Posted by Amy on Friday June 19, 2009

Nous Vous (which means we / you) is a creative studio based in the UK, that focus on graphic design and illustration. The team is made up of Jay, Nic, Tom and Will and you can see photos of their recent exhibition called ‘Heavy Bones’ at Analogue Books’ flickr stream.
What caught my eye was this Friendly Cove A2 giclee print poster (which is pretty big by my standards) that will launch on the 22nd of June. They have a lot of other goodies like zines, postcards and prints in their shop too, and my guess is that if you like Nigel Peake, then you’d probably love these guys.
