Have a nice day
Posted by Amy on Monday August 9, 2010
Ever experienced a week where time seems to swoosh by? Well last week it certainly seemed so. With two giveaways: a sponsor giveaway by KLT:Works and also the launch of the PikaPackage Go Travel! package, it seems like the excitement never ends over at Pikaland HQ. (it’s a good thing, trust me!)
So after the light posting (and an abrupt end to the week), let’s start this week afresh — Beverly Ealdama is on to something with this wonderful message that’s too oft forgotten.
Have a great start to the week everyone!

Loving the wonderful illustrations from Netalulia’s Flickr stream. My favourites are the ones where she uses the combination of collage + color pencils for rendering an idea.

Animal Groups
Posted by Jamie Shelman on Wednesday April 21, 2010

There is something compositionally appealing about a group of animals set apart against a white background. Perhaps it is the extremity of isolation between mass and no mass, or sense of classification.
I especially love:
- The vintage children’s illustration Circus Zapzaroni posted by Natalie Birkle
- This excerpt from a medieval manuscript Unicorn in a tournament ; and
- Dog Doodles by London based illustrator stellab1.

Irena Zablotska// Keepa
Posted by Amy on Monday April 12, 2010

Irena Zablotska’s monsters are a mish mash of colours and patterns; and are so wonderfully playful! Together with partner Eugene Rudyy they run Keepa based in Lviv, Ukraine, with a strong portfolio of illustration and design work done for various companies – ranging from magazines, to software companies.

Jared Andrew Schorr
Posted by Jamie Shelman on Thursday April 8, 2010

Stumbled across the work of California based artist Jared Andrew Schorr the other day and was so glad I did! His whimsical characters and sense of humor remind me of why I make and love art! I especially love his monster alphabet which includes the disclaimer “there is a possibility these letters will bite” (the letter Y is shown above).
Be sure to check out the full alphabet on his flickr account supercoolspyclub
and visit his blog and etsy shop for more great work!
Oh and I almost forgot to mention — most of his work is made out of cut pieces of paper! What a champ!

“I’m not an artist, a painter, a singer, a photographer, a poet, a human, a child, a man, a woman, a cat, animal, mineral, vegetable, a ghost or a dream. I’m not nothing of this and I am all.”

Gentleman & Sparrow Series
Posted by Jamie Shelman on Wednesday February 3, 2010

Enjoying these simple graphite drawings by UK artist Jay Cover.
The texture of the graphite, the contrast of values, the shadows (which give the works a sculptural appeal) and of course the little sparrow all contribute to the charm of these subtle pieces.
See the full series of Gentlemen and Sparrow’s on Jay’s flickr stream along with other aesthetically inspiring and unembellished line drawings.

Introducing the Good to Eat flickr group!
Posted by Amy on Friday January 29, 2010
I’m inspired by all things food lately, and with a good rest at the end of the year, it culminated in lots of ideas for the coming months! So the first new project on Pikaland for 2010 is the Good to Eat flickr stream — a fun look at what artists, designers + illustrators all over the world eat! Nothing is more universal than food (besides music!) so share what fills your creative tummy by posting all your food and drinks related illustrations/photos on the Good to Eat page!

{Loving this new blog too: Norwegian food illustrated by an Italian by Vesle Serena, a graphic designer who loves to draw and cook!}
