Sponsor giveaway: Benconservato
Posted by Amy on Tuesday March 9, 2010

Everyone should have a monster to call their own. Mine would be one that’s a little rough around the edges, scruffy looking with a gruff voice, but a big heart (and one with a smile goes a long way too.)
If there ever was a lady who could translate my perfect monster onto paper, that would be Emma Kidd of Benconservato. She’s based in Australia, and is an artist, illustrator, printmaker, and photographer who’s always busy dreaming up and drawing monsters!
She’s giving away a set of Monsters Behaving Badly Colouring Book and a 6-pack of Colour Me Happy Gocco Party Invites to ONE lucky reader if you’ll share with us your favorite monsters (real or imaginary!)
Giveaway ends on 16th March 2010 and the winner will be announced via email!

Dwell Deep
Posted by Amy on Tuesday January 12, 2010

Lovely illustrations with a retro feel from Sam Wedelich, who sells gocco prints and illustrated wares in her Etsy shop, Dwell Deep. Love her idea of upcycling a basic glass jar and turning it into something that can make you break into a smile — now everyone needs to put their own mug on that jar!

Loving the richly detailed Gocco work of Sollinero, an artist based in Bueno Aires. At first glance I thought they were letterpressed!
{Thanks Yael!}

You know how you can recognize someone’s work instantly because of their style? Maybe it’s because I keep seeing Jen’s work over on her blog and hope for the day when she’ll get that space on Etsy and open up a shop of her own.
That was what she did, by the way, and you can see all sorts of lovely stuff she made in her Etsy shop that’s called hellojenuine.

Leigh Wells
Posted by Amy on Tuesday May 26, 2009

I love Leigh Wells’ gocco print entitled Where I Sit, which was an unpublished illustration she did a few years ago about thought and creativity. (Read about her and Victoria of sfgirlbybay’s fun gocco process here.)
Further prodding led me to her website with more beautiful illustrations accompanied by gorgeous hand-lettering work. She did the cover & various inside page elements for TIME magazine’s Mind & Body Special issue, which I think is rather grand.

Kindred: Spring
Posted by Amy on Sunday March 22, 2009
A couple of months ago, Holly of Decor8 and Ez of Creature Comforts invited me to be one of the 8 artists for Kindred : a seasonally curated selection of complementary art and photography from artists to your desktop. Of course I jumped at the opportunity, and the final result was this illustration I made for the topic of Spring.
You can read more about my interview, and download my illustration for your desktop here.
For those who prefer it to be a print on your desk instead of your dektop, I also made limited edition gocco prints of the illustration (I had to make small changes to the spot coloring of the illustration for it to be printed via gocco!) You can purchase the print over in my shop.
I’m so excited to be among the company of many wonderful artists:
Danna Ray, Ez of Creature Comforts, Fifi Lapin, Hadley Hutton, Holly of Decor8, Jennifer Buckley, Kiki & Polly, Marisa Anne Haedike, and Shanon Gass.
{Thank you so much for the opportunity Holly + Ez!}

Night Tales
Posted by Amy on Monday March 9, 2009

Yu-I recently participated in an art show called “Inspired” which opened on Jan 14th 2009 in Tinlark gallery, Los Angeles, California. Her work featured prints inspired by mixtures of childhood memories and imaginary nights. In conjunction with the gallery show, she’s releasing a very limited edition set of gocco prints — like this one called Orchid Yard, which is one of my favourite.

And here’s a couple links to keep you busy today:
- Take a look at Jen Corace’s apartment over at Apartment Therapy
- Listen to Jillian Tamaki on how to generate ideas (via Drawn!)
- And to help you along with some more ways to generate ideas, how about trying out The Scribbler?
Have a creative weekend everyone, and thanks for your patience as I ironed out some technical issues over at Pikaland yesterday!
