Posted by Amy on Friday June 25, 2010

I found out about Nancy’s fresh, fun illustrations through Tabitha, one of our Pikaland Bootcamp participants — I love her explorations in watercolor!
Keep up with this Berlin-based lass at her blog.
Thanks Tabitha!

Illustrator and designer Anna Raff has a blog called Ornithoblogical where she posts a drawing about a whimsical bird-related topic everyday (which are sometimes related to random national holidays). I’m especially loving her watercolor birdies!
Anna is a NYC based, award-winning illustrator whose work has appeared in books, magazines, and television – to see more, head over to her portfolio site.

geninne's art blog
Posted by Racheal Anilyse on Thursday April 22, 2010

Many of you probably already know her work, but for those like me who are new, my new favorite art blog right now (clearly aside from Pikaland), is that of Mexican artist Geninne Zlatkis.
The images of her in-process work and of her actual artwork are huge and bold. I love when artists have the brevity to post online artwork large scale with no copyright or watermarks. I was looking through her tools section where she mentions every art supply she uses (and how), and I found her honesty quite refreshing.
As artists, illustrators, and creators, maybe we should let our images and techniques be free, to share, to soar, like birds.

Tom Moglu

Loving the work of Tom Moglu – look at those patterns rendered in watercolor and those collage pieces! He used to sell prints of his collages here but seem to have taken a hiatus for a bit. Maybe someone should tell him to start it up again, hmm? ;)

Aidan Koch is a recent grad from NW College of Art in Portland, OR. Recently she’s been exploring loose ink paintings in comic book form and producing them as artist ‘zines. I love how these images flow between a comic book layout and a watercolor painting.

Joana Rosa Bragança

Joana Rosa Bragança is an illustrator based in Portugal and can I just say how lovely her work is? Everything is so pretty and beautifully detailed – she has mad watercolor skills! I’m so in love with how she draws people too: soft, rounded and fluid. Check out the lack of elbows. SWOON.
Check out her flickr and here’s her blog about her little pet!

Christine Pym

Beautiful watercolour illustrations from Christine Pym who studied Illustration for Children’s Publishing at the North East Wales Institute in the UK. She’s illustrated one book entitled The Tail of the Whale which will be out soon! I love how she talks about achieving a balance between your own vision and what the market wants in this blog post of hers on her experience after she graduated from university.

Ooli is an illustrator/artist from Saint Petersburg, Russia. The delicate transparencies in her watercolor paintings are really a thing of beauty. Chilly, quiet, calm, I feel she’s taken us to a mythological world where snow is about to fall.

Stacey Rozich
Posted by Amy on Tuesday January 19, 2010

If you love folk art, then you’ll surely love Stacey Rozich’s bold folk drawings done in gouache and watercolor. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, she studied Illustration at California College of Arts in San Francisco and is quite the whiz in simple pen and ink line drawings.
Her work evokes memories of when I used to read children’s books (Asian ones), filled with images of carved Chinese lions guarding the palace gate and other mythical beings. I love how Stacey incorporates elements from various folk stories and creates beautiful creatures from them.
